FX-Sport VRX Wireless Headphones – With built in personal trainer

The FX-Sport wireless headphones were a great solution to my music issues when going to the gym. When it comes to music workout accessories for that extra bit of motivation needed to get through a workout , I can safely say that I have tried it all.

Here are some of the things that I tried in the past before my lovely wife bought me the FX-Sport headphones for my birthday 2 years ago.

Ear phones with my mobile phonePhoneWithHeadphones

This had to be the worst solution for my music needs in the gym. First I had to make sure that my phone was preloaded with all the music I wanted. Then I had to carry my phone around in the gym and use my sweaty fingers to change tracks when the music just wasn’t doing it for me. Not to mention that the ear phones kept falling out or getting loose especially while doing routines on the treadmill,  laying down on the bench or just jumping around.

Headphones with my mobile phone

The falling earphone issue was just becoming to much of an annoyance for me so to solve that issue I opted for headphones instead. After lot and lots of research and a recommendation from a friend, I settled with the Bose Quiet Comfort 3. Although this solved bose-qc3-2the falling out ear phone issue previously experienced  with most of my workout routines, there was still some slippage with workouts that involved laying on your back. At this point I was still lugging around my mobile phone and battery life was an issue for both my mobile phone and the Bose headphones.

Lets Bluetooth it

Ok so the phone had to go or at least stop following me from station to station in the gym. It was time to go wireless and see how this could improve my experience in the gym. I didn’t want to spend tooBLUETOOTH
much money on Bluetooth headphones especially after all that money spent on the Bose Quiet Comfort 3. I decided to go for something cheaper just to give it a try in the gym and finally settled on the 66 Audio BTS+ Bluetooth 4.0 Wireless Sports Headphones. Although these did solve the lugging phone around the gym issue, it introduced a whole new set of issues for me. Sound quality was one of them because I was used to the Bose headphones. Another issue was toggling through playlists which just wouldn’t work for me directly from the head set.

Say hello to the iPod shuffle with armband

Ok, so now I was getting somewhere. The phone was out of the picture and the annoying ear phones were gone. I have to say I was liking the wireless aspect of the Bluetooth speakers but the other issues it introduced was just not going to make my workout experience any better. This is where the shuffleiPod Shuffle came in. It was compact, had great battery life and gave me direct access to my music. So now here is where I stood, no more ear phones falling out, no more carrying my phone around and no more dead battery on my phone. The only issue I had at this point was the slippage with the headphones while doing workouts on my back and the dangling headphone wire.

So now I had to accept that this was the way to go until something better came along, and boy did something much better come along that solved all the issues that I mentioned above.

Introducing the FX-Sport wireless headphones

The designer of the FX Sport headphone must have been really annoyed with the problems I discussed above because these headphones seem to address each and every one of them. When I first got them 2 years ago I was not so sure about how well they would perform, but now there is no way I can go to the gym without them.  Lets take a detailed look at these headphones and see if I can give you a good idea of what to expect if you ever decide to buy them. I will start with the the features that differentiates the product from other headphones and end with the full feature list with comments.

FX-Sport software

Once you take the headphones out of the package the best thing to do is install the software. The software will allow you to create folders to organize your music although you can do this from Windows explorer too. The software will also let you setup your own workout and configure the race against a virtual athlete feature.

On the left you can see the folders on your computer and on the right you have the folders on your headphone. You can transfer the music simply by dragging and dropping items from your computer to the headphones.

Personal Trainer

The personal trainer tab in the software allows you to setup your own workout. The trainer will actually talk to you during the workout and tell you what you need to do. You can create your own custom workouts or upload a workout from the hundreds of free workouts available in the workout store.

Pace mode

In pace mode you can race against a virtual athlete. All you need to do is enter your name, the virtual athletes name, the distance and the completion time of the virtual athlete. The headphones will let you know how you are progressing in relation to the virtual athlete. This is an excellent tool to improve your running or swimming speed. Keep in mind that to use these headphones in the pool you will need to purchase the Sport Silicone Skin Case. I was not a big fan of it and only ended up using it once. Maybe if I kept experimenting with it in the pool then I would change my mind.

FX-Sport Headphones full feature list

In this section I will cover each of the features and try my best to provide some feedback based on my experience with each.

Overall I gave these headphones a 5 star rating simply because of the rich features and the fact that I have been using them at least 4 times a week for the last two years and they are still running strong. If you have any questions about these headphones then please leave a comment and I will get back to you.
