The FX-Sport wireless headphones were a great solution to my music issues when going to the gym. When it comes to music workout accessories for that extra bit of motivation needed to get through a workout , I can safely say that I have tried it all.

Here are some of the things that I tried in the past before my lovely wife bought me the FX-Sport headphones for my birthday 2 years ago.

Ear phones with my mobile phonePhoneWithHeadphones

This had to be the worst solution for my music needs in the gym. First I had to make sure that my phone was preloaded with all the music I wanted. Then I had to carry my phone around in the gym and use my sweaty fingers to change tracks when the music just wasn’t doing it for me. Not to mention that the ear phones kept falling out or getting loose especially while doing routines on the treadmill,  laying down on the bench or just jumping around.

Headphones with my mobile phone

The falling earphone issue was just becoming to much of an annoyance for me so to solve that issue I opted for headphones instead. After lot and lots of research and a recommendation from a friend, I settled with the Bose Quiet Comfort 3. Although this solved bose-qc3-2the falling out ear phone issue previously experienced  with most of my workout routines, there was still some slippage with workouts that involved laying on your back. At this point I was still lugging around my mobile phone and battery life was an issue for both my mobile phone and the Bose headphones.

Lets Bluetooth it

Ok so the phone had to go or at least stop following me from station to station in the gym. It was time to go wireless and see how this could improve my experience in the gym. I didn’t want to spend tooBLUETOOTH
much money on Bluetooth headphones especially after all that money spent on the Bose Quiet Comfort 3. I decided to go for something cheaper just to give it a try in the gym and finally settled on the 66 Audio BTS+ Bluetooth 4.0 Wireless Sports Headphones. Although these did solve the lugging phone around the gym issue, it introduced a whole new set of issues for me. Sound quality was one of them because I was used to the Bose headphones. Another issue was toggling through playlists which just wouldn’t work for me directly from the head set.

Say hello to the iPod shuffle with armband

Ok, so now I was getting somewhere. The phone was out of the picture and the annoying ear phones were gone. I have to say I was liking the wireless aspect of the Bluetooth speakers but the other issues it introduced was just not going to make my workout experience any better. This is where the shuffleiPod Shuffle came in. It was compact, had great battery life and gave me direct access to my music. So now here is where I stood, no more ear phones falling out, no more carrying my phone around and no more dead battery on my phone. The only issue I had at this point was the slippage with the headphones while doing workouts on my back and the dangling headphone wire.

So now I had to accept that this was the way to go until something better came along, and boy did something much better come along that solved all the issues that I mentioned above.

Introducing the FX-Sport wireless headphones

The designer of the FX Sport headphone must have been really annoyed with the problems I discussed above because these headphones seem to address each and every one of them. When I first got them 2 years ago I was not so sure about how well they would perform, but now there is no way I can go to the gym without them.  Lets take a detailed look at these headphones and see if I can give you a good idea of what to expect if you ever decide to buy them. I will start with the the features that differentiates the product from other headphones and end with the full feature list with comments.

FX-Sport software

Once you take the headphones out of the package the best thing to do is install the software. The software will allow you to create folders to organize your music although you can do this from Windows explorer too. The software will also let you setup your own workout and configure the race against a virtual athlete feature.

On the left you can see the folders on your computer and on the right you have the folders on your headphone. You can transfer the music simply by dragging and dropping items from your computer to the headphones.

Personal Trainer

The personal trainer tab in the software allows you to setup your own workout. The trainer will actually talk to you during the workout and tell you what you need to do. You can create your own custom workouts or upload a workout from the hundreds of free workouts available in the workout store.

Pace mode

In pace mode you can race against a virtual athlete. All you need to do is enter your name, the virtual athletes name, the distance and the completion time of the virtual athlete. The headphones will let you know how you are progressing in relation to the virtual athlete. This is an excellent tool to improve your running or swimming speed. Keep in mind that to use these headphones in the pool you will need to purchase the Sport Silicone Skin Case. I was not a big fan of it and only ended up using it once. Maybe if I kept experimenting with it in the pool then I would change my mind.

FX-Sport Headphones full feature list

In this section I will cover each of the features and try my best to provide some feedback based on my experience with each.

Overall I gave these headphones a 5 star rating simply because of the rich features and the fact that I have been using them at least 4 times a week for the last two years and they are still running strong. If you have any questions about these headphones then please leave a comment and I will get back to you. 1. Hi Hamada,

I can definitely relate to the problem of having your headphones slipping off your head whilst doing exercises where you have to lie on your back. It always happens to me when I do crunches and leg lifts – it’s so frustrating!

Your review of these headphones is really great, they sound exactly like what I’m looking for – I was wondering what the sound quality is like in your opinion?

  2. I have been looking for a music system which is portable and convenient to use at the Gym.

I am tired of the wires getting in the way of everything and hampering my movement. I normally go to the Gym alone, so I need some form of music or I will get very bored.

Tell me what you think of the Bose Comfort 3 Headset. Is it worth the money and do you highly recommend it?

    1. Hi Mark,

      Thanks for the comment

I used the bose for about 6 months and I have to say it is a nice piece of equipment. The sound quality is good and it does a marvellous job of cancelling outside noise. The only thing I didn’t like about it is the dangling wire and the fact that you have to take the battery out and fix it into the charger everytime you want to charge it. Also battery life isn’t that great and you will probably need to charge it for every gym session.

      Hope this helps

  3. I must admit I am a user of my mobile phone with Bluetooth sports earpieces. I had been considering making the change to headphones as I find that my ears get sore with the little pop in ones. Glad I read your blog before trotting off to buy some new ones as I will now look at these as well before making up my mind, they look great.

  4. I really enjoyed the review of the FX Sport Headphones.Boy,this stuff has really got some awesome features.

I really like the fact that it is waterproof as I am an avid swimmer and it would be interesting to try this out during the back strokes.

This is actually the first time that I heard of a set of headphones that comes with a ‘personal trainer.’

This is on my wish list for my birthday which is coming up at the end of Nov.

    Thanks
    Roopesh

    1. Hi Roopesh

      Thanks for the comment.

The headphones do work in the pool after placing them in the silicone skin. I have only tried this once so I can’t really give you an accurate opinion of how good it is in the pool. Might take some getting used to when using it with the silicone skin in terms of sound quality and fit.

  5. Hi,
Having just got back into exercise I found the headphones really interesting Can they sync with i tunes so I can just transfer music over?

On a different note, I’ve been a chef for 15 years and you are bang on with batch cooking! It’s a great idea to keep raw veg like carrots, cauli and brocoli in water in your fridge to help keep it fresh. It’s how all pro kitchens operate
    Thanks

    1. Hi Neil

      Thanks for the nice comment

Unfortunately the headphone aren’t compatible with itunes at the moment but there are ways to access your music in itunes and move it over to the headphones. May take a little bit of clicking around but i’m sure it can be done.

  6. Like you, I have had countless problems with headphones and working out. My biggest issue was on the treadmill! Imagine running at a comfortable pace, being in “the zone,” and out of nowhere you are hog-tied to the treadmill because the wires on the headphones got into a swinging frenzy and wrapped around the handgrip area. You HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!
I went Bluetooth as well but like you, I hate constantly readjusting the fit during my workouts.
I have never heard about the FX SPORT WIRELESS headphones, but with Christmas just-around-the-corner, I will be looking into these headphones more.
Thank you for the information because so far my workouts and headphones have not been cohesively friendly.

    1. Hi Shawna,

I know exactly what you mean about the treadmill. I don’t know if its the shape of my ears or just the ear phones, but those things will never stay put for me. With the FX sport I only have to put them on at the beginning of a workout without any adjusting what so ever after that. I am really happy with them.

  7. wow, these are very cool. I too have tried to use my iPhone with the earbuds when i exercise only to fail miserably. It just doesn’t work. But these…these headphones seem to be the answer.

Your post is timely…. I”m looking for great christmas gifts for certain hard-to-buy for men on my list, and I think I just found one. Thumbs up and great review. thank you!

    1. Hi Jackie

      Thanks for the nice comment

These headphones are definately a good buy. I have had mine for two years and they are still running strong.

  8. Hi Hamada. I must say that falling headphones, and dangling wires were the two factors that put me off gym. I am ashamed to say it, but it is true. However, with what I have read in your artcle, you had the same problem and you solved it. Good for, you, but now I want it too. Tell me, what is the sound quality of FX-Sport VRX Wireless?

    1. Hi Nikola,

The sound quality is actually very good and comparable to the well known names like Bose and Beats. I use them in a gym with very loud music playing in the background and I can barely hear it because the headphone does such a good job of cancelling outside noise.
